I've been drawing since before I knew what a career was — charcoal all through high school. Graphic design was the closest thing to getting paid while creating, and I'm a realist.
Seventeen years later, I've helped owners build everything from CNC art pieces to petroleum signage. Not all of it was my calling, but when my first kid arrived in the middle of COVID lockdowns in Melbourne, I did what kept the lights on.
Now I'm back in Wagga Wagga NSW.
I create digitally — not because it's trendy, but because it's practical & sustainable (you won't believe how many finished artbooks I have). No studio space. No drying time. I pick up the iPad and draw. digital art doesn't get the attention it deserves. My process is the same as traditional work: planning, structure, intention. I save the full creation timeline— every stroke, every correction, every decision. The process is part of the work. Imperfection is the human element, and that's what makes art.
When a piece is ready, it goes to Hound & Bone in Melbourne — a Hahnemühle Certified Studio, one of the best fine art printeries in the country. Pigment-based inks on German Etching 310gsm archival paper. Up to 1.2 metres wide. Seeing something I've poured myself into printed at that scale gives me goosebumps.
My office walls are covered in pieces I framed myself. I've learned when to leave things to the professionals.
I'll be doing this for the rest of my life, if I can find a way to pay for it.
Regional artists don't get the same support as those in cities. That's part of why my design agency focuses on regional small-business owners — people with hearts of gold who've turned passion into livelihood. Seeing a business still thriving 12 years ago that I helped design somthing for that's the work I'm here for.
This is just another way of getting by, please support regional Artists believe me when I say it's not easy being a creative in the bush.
